What Dickinson County Traffic Court Records Include
A Dickinson County traffic case file documents every stage of the case. At the start, the record includes the citation details: charge, date, location, officer name, and ticket number. As the case moves through the system, each docket entry is added: appearances, hearings, continuances, and payments. The disposition entry is the key one. It records whether the person was found responsible, not responsible, or if the case was dismissed.
For criminal traffic charges like OWI under MCL 257.625 or reckless driving under MCL 257.626, the file is more detailed. It includes the criminal charge, any plea agreement, the sentence imposed, and probation conditions if applicable. If community service was ordered, that may appear as well. Certified copies of any of these records are available from the 95B-1 District Court clerk. You need the certified copy for things like insurance disputes or legal proceedings where the official record is required.
Note: Court records show what happened in court. They do not show your current point total or license status. Those are kept by the Secretary of State.
Your Options After Getting a Dickinson County Traffic Ticket
When a civil infraction ticket is issued in Dickinson County, you have 14 days to respond. Look at the ticket carefully. It will list the fine amount and explain your options. Not responding means the court enters a default judgment. That means points are assessed to your driving record through the Secretary of State, and the unpaid fine may lead to license suspension.
You have three main ways to respond. First, admit responsibility and pay the fine. This is the quickest option and closes the case. Second, admit with an explanation. You write a statement and the magistrate reviews it. The magistrate can reduce the fine but cannot waive points. Third, deny responsibility and request a hearing. At an informal hearing there are no attorneys, the magistrate presides, and you can appeal within 7 days if you lose. At a formal hearing a judge presides, both sides can have attorneys, and the citing officer is there to present their account.
Michigan courts are not allowed to take traffic cases under advisement. The court cannot promise to dismiss a case if you attend a class. What a court-approved or Secretary of State approved defensive driving course can do is reduce points on your driving record through a separate state program. That is worth asking about if points are your main concern.
Dickinson County also has online fine payment. The courtreference.com portal at courtreference.com/Michigan-Court-Fine-Payments.htm lets you pay 95B District Court fines online. A service fee applies.

Points and Driving Records After a Dickinson County Case
Every civil infraction finding and criminal traffic conviction in the 95B-1 District Court gets reported to the Michigan Secretary of State. The Secretary of State is the agency that adds points to your driving record. The court has no ability to reduce, waive, or hold back points. Once the court sends the outcome, the Secretary of State acts on it.
Michigan's point system assigns values based on the severity of the violation. OWI (MCL 257.625), reckless driving, fleeing or eluding police, leaving the scene of an accident, and vehicular manslaughter all carry 6 points. Speeding 16 or more mph over the limit is 5 points. Going 11 to 15 mph over is 4 points. Speeding 1 to 10 mph over, disobeying a traffic signal, improper passing, and failing to stop for a school bus are all 3 points. All other moving violations are 2 points. If you reach 12 points within a 2-year window, the Secretary of State will schedule a reexamination of your driving record and fitness.
Check your driving record and point total at the Michigan Secretary of State's site at michigan.gov/sos or call (517) 322-1624. The ICHAT system at michigan.gov/ichat allows criminal history searches for $10 and may have relevant information if traffic charges led to a criminal case.
